Storytelling With Data: Bringing Your Story to Life

Call for Proposals

Deadline:  Friday, September 22, 2017

Please note that incomplete or late proposals may not be considered.

All conference presenters, facilitators, and moderators must register for the conference.

Proposals are now being accepted for the 31st annual MdAIR Annual Fall Conference, scheduled for October 27, 2017! This year’s conference theme looks at the increasing importance of telling your institution's story. In the digital age, our data stories can offer contextual insight.

Our keynote speaker is Dr. Andrea Lex, Senior Vice President for Operations at the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Dr. Lex will discuss the new Middle States standards which place an even greater emphasis on articulating data as evidence for the institutions’ efforts in meeting the goals they have set for themselves as well as with the accreditation standards.

This year’s conference provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skill set and best practices in the areas of institutional research, planning, and assessment. The annual conference offers attendees the opportunity to explore and discuss the latest trends and techniques in analytical methods for institutional research and assessment as well as network with other professionals.

Please share your expertise with your colleagues by submitting a proposal for a Contributed Paper or Demonstration at this year’s conference. We also encourage proposals for Discussion Panels, which provide an opportunity for broader discussion of topics. We would like to encourage submissions on topics such as:

  • lessons learned--sharing experiences, research and best practices in the areas of institutional research, planning and assessment
  • professional development--including campus leadership, career planning, project management, etc.
  • techniques for interpreting, visualizing, and using data results
  • database creation and management
  • survey development and administration
  • data ethics

Presenters of Contributed Papers at the 2017 Annual Conference will be eligible to receive the MdAIR Best Paper Award. The Best Paper Award recipient is invited to repeat their presentation at the 2018 AIR Annual Forum in Orlando, Fl; additionally the recipient is eligible to receive an award in the amount of the registration fee for the 2017 AIR Annual Forum from MdAIR and matching support from AIR (as long as their matching grant is still available). For more details, visit the MdAIR Awards page.
